Not everyone can afford flying in first or business class, but we all deserve a comfortable trip. Here are eight ways to survive a long flight:
- Choose seat smartly
Choosing seat smartly is important if you are on a long-hour flight. If you want to spend your time on the plane sleeping, then choose a seat by the window. You’ll get a solid wall to rest your head and you will not be disturbed by passing people and carts. If you don’t like noise a lot, choose the back seat. Check in early so you’ll have more freedom to choose seat.
- Bring your own pillow
It is recommended to bring a travel pillow for your own comfort and for the sake of your neck as airlines do not usually provide neck pillows.
- Bring earplugs and eye mask
If you plan to sleep during the flight, don’t forget to bring earplugs to eliminate noise and eye mask to make you sleep better.
- Dress right
If you are going to be on a plane for long hours, then it is a good idea to wear something comfortable and loose. T-shirt and a pair of jeans or leggings (for women) are a great choice.
- Stay healthy
It’s not good for your body and for your health if you rarely move from your seat. There are not a lot of exercises you can do on a plane, but you can at least stretch, walk around the cabin and drink water regularly.
- Be creative/productive
Unless you are on a flight, it’s hard to get the chance to be free from distractions such as phone calls or texts for long hours, right? So make the most of it! Make your brain work, bring a notebook or whatever it is you need to be creative or productive on the plane.
- Prepare your own entertainment
A long-hour flight is going to be extremely boring if you aren’t going to do anything. If you just sit down on your seat and count down the time to your arrival in your destination…imagine that. So prepare your own entertainment. If you love reading, bring some novels, books or magazines. If you love watching movies and listening to the music, load as many as you can, because sometimes the inflight movies and music are terrible.
- Chocolate for flight attendants
Befriend your flight attendants by bringing them some chocolate. Something sweet is good to cheer someone up, especially during a long flight. Be nice to them and they’ll be much nicer to you.
