You can find a lot of unique things in China, one of them is the Dwarf Village. Only little people can live there. See the dwellings in the picture, they are built specially for small people.
2. Chefchaouen – Morocco
Situated in northeastern Morocco, Chefchaouen is one of the most beautiful cities there. Not only is this city beautiful, but it is also unique. Most of the city’s buildings and streets are painted blue. Who painted them blue? The Jewish refugees that lived in the city during the 1930s.
3. Thames Town – China
An English town in China? That’s why it’s unique! Thames Town is a simulated British City that is located in Songjiang Province of the Republic of China. This town has everything English, from its architecture and cuisine to the classic red phone booths that you can find in London!
4. Roswell – USA
You can find this “UFO Town” in the state of New Mexico, USA. What was the reason behind the aliens and the Unidentified Flying Object in Roswell? Residents claim that in the 40s there was a UFO landed there.
5. Coober Pedy – Australia
People in this town live underground. It’s much better to live underground than aboveground because it’s just extremely hot in the area.
6. Manshiyat Naser – Egypt
With trash everywhere on the streets and in the buildings, Manshiyat Naser looks like a place that suffers from the aftermath of a disaster. This town in Egypt looks very shabby and unhealthy. Surprisingly, people reside there and even make a living by recycling the trash. What’s more surprising is that they are successful in doing it.
7. Slab City – USA
The residents of the Slab City claim their city as the last free place in America. Basically you can do anything as you wish in Slab City. You won’t be charged for parking. The place is not controlled. There are no toilets, sewers, running water, official electricity, etc. There are no laws either.
8. Miyakejima Island – Japan
Everyone living in Miyakejima island has to wear a mask (when needed) to protect themselves. It is a must to carry the gas mask all the time, just in case. The government paid its residence to live there. The town is located at the base of an active volcano. They can die from poisoning due to the exposure of unnaturally high levels of sulfur. That’s why it is normal to see the habitants wearing masks.
9. Centralia – USA
Just look at the picture, it’s pretty dangerous! There are sinkholes everywhere. There is also a fire that has been burning, not for years, but for decades. Back in the 1980s, there was an incident of a young boy who slipped through a sinkhole in his backyard. Everyone was encouraged to move out of the town following the incident. Now there are only a few families that reside in the borough.
10. Elista – Russia
It’s the Chess City! Most of the tourists know Elista by its popular name, that is the Chess City. Why is there a giant chessboard in the town square? Because the designer was obsessed with chess. The main theme of the whole town is chess.
11. Colma – USA
Colma is probably the only town in the world in which the number of the dead is much higher than the number of the living. Located in San Mateo County, California, Colma is a very small town with the population of around 1.800 people at the 2010 census. With too many cemeteries, the city has earned some nicknames, such as the “City of the Silent” and “City of Souls”.

This island is uninhabited. The abandoned and forgotten island is there as a reminder of the dark history prior to and during the Second World War. You can take a spooky tour on the island if you are interested.

What makes this town so unique and famous? If you see the picture, you can see a rock above the dwellings. The residents in Setenil de las Bodegas literally live under a rock.
14. Rennes-le-Chateau – France
The picture looks a little bit scary, isn’t it? It is said that Rennes-le-Chateau keeps a lot of mysteries, from religious rituals and unsolved murders to hidden treasures. If you read Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code, you know that this town is in the novel.
15. CITE – USA
Is it the SimCity?! Unfortunately no, it’s not. CITE is short for the Center for Innovation, Testing and Evaluation. New technologies, renewable natural energy in specific, are tested here. The Center does not have permanent residents residing in the houses. It’s probably why the town is sometimes called the “ghost town”.
